PG548 dimensions

Outer dimensions: 548 × 348 × 60 mm.

Inner usable: 530 × 330 × 52 mm (typical, varies slightly by cavity design).

Wall thickness: 1.0-1.5 mm (thermoformed conductive PS).

Stack pitch: 60 mm stacked empty, 60 mm + tray-floor offset stacked loaded with positive registration.

Mass empty: 280-320 g per tray.

Color: black (standard).

Material and ESD

Material: conductive polystyrene (PS) — thermoformed with carbon-loaded styrene resin.

Surface resistance: 10⁴ – 10⁶ Ω/sq, conductive grade per ANSI/ESD S20.20 / IEC 61340-5-1.

Charge decay: under 0.5 seconds at 12% relative humidity.

Temperature: -20°C to +60°C continuous use. Not rated for reflow (use HIPS variant for reflow oven transit).

Tribocharging: under 50V at standard rub test, conforming to S20.20 packaging requirements.

Use cases

PCB WIP between assembly stations — a stacked column of PG548 trays carries 8-12 PCBs through inter-station transport.

Electronic component bulk WIP — loose components in line-side bins.

Custom cavity inserts for specific BOMs — common pattern is open PG548 footprint + thermoformed insert sized to your PCB.

Long-term WIP storage (cleanroom-compatible variants).

Stock and custom orders

Open / no-cavity PG548 trays — stocked at the Los Angeles warehouse, ship same-day. List price $9.75 per unit; volume tiering at 100 / 500 / 1,000 / 5,000+.

Custom cavity inserts — thermoformed to your CAD or sample. NRE for the cavity insert tool typically $1,500-$3,500; lead time 4 weeks from sign-off.

Custom full-cavity PG548 (cavity geometry molded into the tray itself, not as a slot-in insert) — quoted on full-tooling NRE around $4,000-$8,000.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is PG548 the same as a JEDEC matrix tray?

No. JEDEC matrix trays are smaller (typically 135.9 × 322.6 mm × 7.62 mm) and are used for individual IC handling. PG548 (548 × 348 × 60 mm) is much larger and is used for PCB and sub-assembly handling. Different applications, different tooling.

Can PG548 trays survive reflow?

No — standard conductive PS deforms above 80°C. For reflow-compatible PCB transit, we supply the same 548×348 mm footprint in HIPS (high-impact polystyrene, stable to 130°C peak) on a custom-tooling order. Specify "PG548 HIPS reflow-grade" on the quote.

Do PG548 trays stack reliably?

Yes — positive registration features in the tray floor align with the lip of the tray below. Typical stack heights 8-12 trays without strapping; higher stacks (16-20) need strap or shrink-wrap around the stack.

What is the MOQ on custom cavity inserts?

MOQ on inserts is 250 pieces (lower than full custom trays at 500 pieces) because we share the tray-body tool across all customers and only tool the insert. Lead time 4 weeks from CAD approval.
